Hard Water Problems:
Water described as “hard” is high in dissolved minerals, specifically calcium
and magnesium. While these minerals are healthy, they can cause the

Chlorine Problems:
Chlorine is a highly efficient disinfectant, and it is added to public water supplies to kill disease-causing bacteria that the water or its transport pipes might contain.

Sulfur Odors & Taste:

Common sources of bad taste and odors are sulfur, decaying organisms, bacteria and chlorine. Sulfur can be naturally occurring in many areas, and sometimes peaks during certain times of the year. Microorganisms:
Of the many infectious microorganisms found in the environment, bacteria and viruses may be found in water. These microorganisms can cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach cramps. In healthy adults, these illnesses are usually mild and do not last long. Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's):
Volatile organic compounds have a variety of harmful health effects. At high levels of exposure, many VOCs can cause acute central nervous system depression (drowsiness, stupor). Virtually all VOCs cause skin and respiratory irritation. Long-term exposure to many VOCs is known to cause liver and kidney disorders, severe nervous system problems, and a wide range of cancers. Drinking water containing one or more VOCs at levels above standards should not be consumed. In addition, because little is known about the compound effects of exposure to multiple VOCs, attention should be given if two or more VOC chemicals are found in your drinking water. Trihalomethanes (THM's):
Chlorine is a powerful disinfectant commonly used in municipal water treatment plants to kill bacteria and other harmful microorganisms. Unfortunately, it can react with organic material in the water creating chloroform, trihalomethanes (THMs) and other "chlorination disinfection by-products" (CDPs), all of which have been strongly linked with incidence of cancer. Arsenic:
Arsenic is a semi-metallic element with the chemical symbol "As." It is a member of the nitrogen family, occurs naturally in rocks and soils, and can contaminate water that comes in contact with these rocks and soils. Arsenic is odorless and tasteless. It can combine with other elements to form inorganic and organic arsenicals. In general, inorganic derivatives are regarded as more toxic than the organic forms. Radon:
Radon is a naturally occurring, colorless, odorless, water-soluble gas produced by the radioactive decay of radium. Radium is a radioactive metallic chemical element found in pitchblende and other uranium minerals. It is common in the earth’s crust. Radon breaks down in a natural, spontaneous process or "decays" to form other elements. All rocks contain some trace uranium concentrations. The highest concentrations are in plutonic rocks, such as granite. Because the source of radon is the radioactive decay of uranium, higher radon amounts are commonly detected in areas underlain by granites, dark shales, light-colored volcanic rocks, sedimentary rocks containing phosphate, and metamorphic rocks. Iron, Iron Bacteria & Manganese:
There are different varieties of iron and manganese that can be present in your household water supply. Each of these types must be considered separately, as treatment will be different for each. It should be noted that manganese is also common in residential water supplies and is usually found in conjunction with iron. It is found in the same forms as iron, and generally treated using the same methods.
Soluble or Dissolved Iron and Manganese (Ferrous)
This is the most common type of iron (and manganese) found in domestic water sources. It is also called "clear water iron" because coming out of the tap, the water will look clear and clean (not discolored as it will with insoluble iron or manganese). If you leave the glass of water for 20 minutes to an hour however, you will notice a colored precipitate which will eventually settle on the bottom. This is the iron and/or manganese turning back into its insoluble form after coming into contact with oxygen in the air.
Insoluble Iron and Manganese (Ferric)
Ferric iron is simply iron that has already oxidized (rusted) - it can fe readily seen sue to the discoloration of the water or due the presence of tiny granuales of "rust" in the water. Although not as common as it's soluble counterpart, insoluble iron can cause serious problems to those who are afflicted with it.
** Soluble and insoluble iron can often both be found together in a given water sample.
Iron/Manganese Bacteria
As previously mentioned, iron or manganese bacteria are commonly present in water supplies with large concentrations of iron, manganese or sometimes calcium present. These bacteria feed on iron or manganese in the water (and in iron pipes, etc) and produce reddish brown, yellowish or black-brown (with manganese) slime that accumulates in toilet tanks and in water pipes and appliances. The offensive sludge can also create hydrogen sulfide, a compound that gives water an unpleasant "rotten eggs" odor that must be dealt with. Problem Menu / TOP
Bacteria & Fungi:
There are a wide variety of bacteria that can be found in drinking water, most of which pose no health hazard. Unfortunately, certain bacterium including certain strains of E.coli can cause terrible illness. Water quality reports often talk about fecal coliform contamination as a measure of bacteriological safety. While fecal coliform bacteria are for the most part harmless, their presence in drinking water is a warning sign that the water supply has been compromised and that other harmful bacteria like E.coli or other contaminants such as nitrites or pesticides may be present. Heavy Metals:
"Heavy Metals" in the water treatment field refers to heavy, dense, metallic elements that occur only at trace levels in water, but are very toxic and tend to accumulate in the body over long periods of time. Most heavy metals are too rarely found in water to justify government regulation at all, but a few have been given Maximum Contaminant Limits (MCLS) and MCL Goals by the Environmental Protection Agency. These include:

Pesticides:
Two factors have influenced the increasing incidence of pesticide contamination being detected in our water supplies has resulted from two factors. First, is the increasing use of organic pesticides over the past 50 years. Between 1950 and 1980 production of synthetic organic pesticides more than tripled in the United States to over 1.4 billion pounds. To date, more than twenty types of pesticides have been detected in U.S. wells, and it is believed that nearly one hundred have the potential to invade our water systems based on their chemical characteristics. Areas with shallow water tables, sandy soils, and where agriculture is intensive are more prone to contamination. Some level of pesticide contamination has been detected in every state and province on the continent. Who uses ozone?
Ozone domestic water purification has been used extensively in Europe since 1906. In the United States, currently hundreds of municipal water treatment plants use ozone. Los Angeles has one of the largest ozone treatment facility, purifying over 600 million gallons of water per day. Las Vegas is currently constructing the largest municipal ozone treatment plant to date. California state law now requires ozonation as the final step before bottled drinking water is packaged. Isn't ozone bad for the environment?
Ozone in the earth's upper atmosphere is what protects us from the harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun. If we could pump more ozone up there, we'd all be better off. However, when created by and mixed with smog and carbon monoxide, ozone is a contributing factor to the greenhouse effect. How long does ozone last in my water?

People have been using chlorine for years, why do I need ozone?
In recent years, scientists have discovered that chlorine creates harmful by-products known as THMs that are carcinogenic. Do the larger municipal water treatment plants that use ozone also use chlorine?
Yes, they do add a small chlorine residual after ozonation. Will I need a water softener with the EcOzone system?
Usually no. The system alters the molecular bonds of the water so that it acts soft. You will experience good soap suds and great cleaning. However, the water will not be chemically soft. Some hard water deposit may still be experienced, but this is easily solved with the addition of the ionization option. How often do the Hydrocare medias in the canisters need to be changed?
Processing performance will be determined by the amount of water being processed and the level of iron and other water issues that can affect the media surfaces. On the average the processing medias should be changed between 6-9 months. The pressure gauges will indicate the pressure flow of water coming into the system and then measure it as it leaves the processing canisters. I am generally a skeptic. My husband insisted that we put in a HydroCare water system. We installed our HydroCare on Friday. Only a few hours later, I asked my husband if he had turned up the temperature on our Rinnai tankless water heater. He hadn't and he really thought that I was maybe imagining the change until he confirmed the fact on Saturday evening that it was indeed hotter...a lot hotter...to the point that it might be a good idea to turn it down some.
I wanted to see what the unit would do when I ran the dishwasher I ran a load of dishes in the dishwasher and it was amazing...the dishes felt completely different (clean, without any residue...what a difference!) and the upper dishwasher shelf, which was not moving in and out smoothly and made noises as it went, was 100% better. We live in the north part of Wichita on the river and use well water. We were unable to use our dishwasher because we have such hard water. The HydroCare provided a solution to our problem. We live 30 miles outside a small town in rural northwest Arizona where the water is extremely hard. We get our water from a well surrounded by granite and limestone.
Before we got the HydroCare Wave Hard Water Solution, we had white residue on everything that contained water. Our dishware and cooking utensils would come out of the dishwater covered with hard water residue. Our toilets, made of smooth ceramic, became rough and had to be brushed down after every use. Just a quick note to let you know how happy we are with our HydroCare unit, and for helping us become so forgetful! Yes, I said forgetful. We use to have that big old clunky Water Softener in the laundry room, which took up a lot of area. Storing the Salt was always a challenge as well. The regular maintenance and having to buy and add the salt was always at the bottom of my list for chores to do! On top of that, the water softener made the house water “feel” funny, and I don’t think it always lived up to it’s reputation to prevent lime scale from forming on the shower walls and doors – we always had some lime scale residue from it.

Thank you so much for allowing me to provide my input on the HydroCare unit. Prior to agreeing to sell the HydroCare unit, I was cautious. We have been raised believing that water softeners were the only way to beat hard water deposits. So with great skepticism, I installed a HydroCare unit on to the water system in my own home.
I felt that if it did not perform for my family, there would be no way I could sell the product to my clients. My name is Art Sharkey and I have been in the water business for over 29 years. Amongst other duties I'm the water quality officer for the largest privately owned water system in the state of Oregon. 1) Ozone Injection / Oxidation:
Ozone is a tri-atomic oxygen (O3) which has very high oxidizing power. It is a gas produced from air and high voltage electricity. The injection of the ozone into the water. Tiny ozone bubbles saturate every drop of water. At this point oxidation of iron, sulfur and manganese is immediate.
2) Aeration:
The elimination (off gassing or venting) of the ozone and other gasses/odors such as sulfur. This occurs by an ozone stripping action. As water flows down the Off Gas Tank, ozonated water rises and strips any gas in the incoming water. We have designed exclusive Self-Cleaning and Maintenance Free vent devices.
3) Filtration:
The next step is for the removal of the oxidized material by filtration. Our proprietary natural physical filter media requiries only water for backwash. No chemicals or oxidizing media is necessary. It yields a high flow and requires a low backwash rate.
4) Ionization:
(Optional) Elimination and prevention of limescale buildup in hard water. It is the only technology that can generate a consistently strong frequency signal in the water, to suspend the minerals that cause scale buildup and prevent them from adhering to the surfaces in pipes, appliance heating elements and fixtures. It will reduce corrosion and maintain the entire water system and appliances in a pristine state.
5) Advanced Drinking Water Purification: (Optional - Better than reverse osmosis) Whole House System features a proprietary blend of several purification processing medias including electrochemical, catalytic, filtration and adsorption for the removal of radon, pesticides, VOC's, THM's, arsenic, cadmium, antimony, barium, mercury, thallium. How Does The EcOzone Water System Work?
Iron / Iron Bacteria: Soluble ferrous iron, which is not filterable, is oxidized (the process ofadding oxygen) to insoluble ferric iron thus making it easily filtered. Bacterial iron can be killed through oxidation and by denying its food source (ferris iron).
Sulfur/Sulfur Bacteria:
Odorous hydrogen sulfide, which is not filterable, is quickly converted to elemental sulfur, which can be easily filtered. A portion of the sulfur is de-volatized and off gassed in step #2. Again, the bacterial form is killed and filtered.
Manganese:
Manganese is oxidized and filtered in the same manner as iron.
Bacteria:
Ozone oxidizes the organic material in bacterial membranes, which weakens the cell wall and leads to cellular rupture. This exposes the organism to the external environment, which causes almost immediate death of the cell. It's similar to a knife deeply cutting skin. (Bacteria systems are sized differently than iron, sulfur and manganese systems)
